10-day cultural safari Tanzania
Day 1: Airport – Arusha
Today you will fly to Kilimanjaro Airport on your own, where you will be met. Welcome to Tanzania. You will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time you can walk around yourself.
Day 2: Arusha
Today you will visit Ngiresi village, located at the foot of Mount Meru, accompanied by an English speaking guide. Here you will meet the local population and learn how they live here. Here you can also enjoy a local lunch prepared by one of the families here.
Also today you take a walk on a coffee plantation where you can hear all the facts about this popular drink.
End of the afternoon you drive back to your hotel for dinner.
Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire
Today you make your first game drive. First you drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park and on the way you see the landscape change. You will also see the first baobab trees here. Once you have arrived at the park, you will prepare yourself for your first game drive. An animal can emerge behind every bush, so you must pay attention. You have your lunch at Tarangire Safari lodge from where you have a beautiful view over the Tarangire river, the river to which the park is named. Elephants often come to this river to freshen up, swim and of course drink water. In addition, you will often see buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras and many gazelles in this park.
You also have the chance to see lions, leopards and cheetahs. There are also many bird species here. Just before it gets dark you drive to your lodge which is located just outside the park.
Day 4: Arusha – Mto Wa Mbu
In the morning you drive to Mto Wa Mbu which is a cozy place, famous among others by its banana plantations. Under the guidance of an guide you will take a walk through this village and you will get an explanation of how the local people live here. A local lunch may of course not be missed. Also today you make a game drive, this time in Lake Manyara National Park, a park that is known for its big soda lake. There are many birds here, such as many heron species and flamingos. In the forest of this park you will see many monkey species such as baboons, Velvet monkeys and the Blue monkeys. The landscape in this park is totally different with the previous park.
Day 5: Mto Wa Mbu – Lake Eyasi
In the early morning you will leave for Lake Eyasi. A place where the special Hadzaze population group lives. Known for its simple way of life and hunting animals with pain and bow. You visit this group under the guidance of a guide.
After lunch you will go to the lake with a guide. You get an explanation about plants and birds.
Day 6: Lake Eyasi – Serengeti NP
After your breakfast you drive to Serengeti National Park, for most the highlight of the trip. Because it is a long driving day, you take a packed lunch. In the afternoon you will make your first game drive here.
Serengeti is the most famous park in Africa. This is due, among other things, to the beautiful nature, the many animals that are here and the migration that takes place in this park for most of the year. Millions of wildebeest and zebras move from one place to another in search of fresh grass. An unforgettable spectacle. You also have a very good chance to see one or more species of cats in this park. Anyway, a game drive in Serengeti is always unforgettable.
Day 7: Serengeti NP
The whole day you make a game drive in this beautiful park.
If you want to make a balloon safari, what can be seen as one of the best African adventures, then today is the right day to do this. You will be picked up very early in the morning and taken to the starting place of the balloon safari. Here you will be informed about the procedures. Afterwards you will leave in your balloon for an unforgettable experience of about an hour (depending on the wind). The view you have from the balloon is truly unforgettable. You will also hear the sounds of the animals well.
You will land in the middle of the Serengeti, a delicious breakfast with champagne awaits you. After this you will be picked up by your own driver and your game drive will start.
Day 8: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
In the morning you make your last game drive in this beautiful park. Once you enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you will see the landscape change again.
Here you will visit a Maasai village, something that should not be missing from this trip.
The Maasai is the most famous population group in Africa. And that is not without reasons. These brave people live in areas where many wild animals roam. In addition, they still stick to traditions that are centuries. Very beautiful.
You visit a manyatta, a village where one or a few families live. Here you will get an explanation of their daily use and they show you how to make fire with sticks. You also visit a hut inside and of course they will dance for you.
After this you will visit the Oldupai Gorge site which is known as the cradle of our existence. Our ancestors lived here millions of years ago. A very special place.
If you like you can also do a walking safari in this area.
You spend the night just outside the NCA in a beautiful lodge.
Day 9: Ngorongoro
Today you make your last game drive of your Tanzania safari tours but certainly not the least. Today you visit one of the 8 world wonders of nature, namely the Ngorongoro Crater. This is the largest caldera in the world that is filled with animals. When you enter the caldera you will see wildlife with the beautiful crater around in the background.
There are large herds of wildebeest and zebras throughout the year. Buffaloes are also easy to spot. Of course you can see hippos at the Hippo pool snoozing. This is also a wonderful place for the bird lovers. In addition to many birds of prey, you can also see the heaviest flying bird, the Kori Bustard.
Hyenas often run across the road and the muzzles can be admired from up close. Also here are the beautiful male lions with big black manes. In the swamp areas you often see the male elephants and also the black rhinoceros occurs here.
In the afternoon you drive back to your lodge.
Optionally, a nature walk can be made in the afternoon.
Day 10: Ngorongoro – Airport
In the morning you take a walk to the Elephant Cave. A popular place for elephants to come. Often you do not see the elephants themselves but their markings like big holes made by their tusks. In any case, it is a beautiful walk and nice to stretch your legs.
After this you will visit the colorful market in Karatu.
Then you will leave for Arusha where you have a late lunch.
Optionally, you can take a tour through Arusha center before you are taken to the airport.
At Kilimanjaro Airport you say goodbye to your driver and unfortunately your 10-day cultural safari Tanzania ends.
We hope you have had a wonderful journey full of culture, nature and animals. We wish you a very good flight back home.
You can of course extend your trip with a few days on Zanzibar. See our Zanzibar trips. Or we can put together a separate extension for you.
